Earth Spirit Centre, nr Glastonbury, Somerset.
CVI, Collaborative Vocal Improvisation, is a delicious approach to being a singer; co-creating music with others in the moment in ways that are diverse, thrilling, challenging, deep, and delightful.
Here is a video about Briony’s teaching:
Vocal Improvisation can be applied to performance, composition, healing, ritual, music education, recording and community.
This is a 4-day residential retreat for singers with some experience of improvisation or some degree of singing confidence. You need to be able to sing in tune and keep a beat.
We’ll explore the CVI forms, bring out our voices, do the Resonant Body practice for vocal optimisation, learn to improvise with words, and play. We’ll support the emotional and psychological aspects of becoming comfortable with improvising (which can be scary initially) - all held in a trauma-informed space.
Led by Briony Greenhill, who has been teaching CVI internationally for many years. She has studied with Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin alongside many other wonderful teachers and influences. As an artist she’s described as being “like Marvin Gaye mixed with a funky Earth mother” (Mojo), also “Joni Mitchell meets Gil Scott-Heron with a British Accent” (NY Jazz guitarist Ilya Lushtak).
Kindness, support, community, and lots and lots of singing.
There’ll be optional yoga and dance most mornings before breakfast (bring kit), a hot tub, and three vegetarian partly organic meals provided daily.
